Speaker 1:

Good afternoon, ginger Adventures. It is your host, ginger, with another art room story. So, friends, I kind of just wanted to share how our school's Field Day went. I'm sure that fellow teachers out there you know about Field Day and the many different events that your Field Day can have and the many different things that can happen during field day. Never a dull moment during field day.

Speaker 1:

Our field day this year was actually really spectacular. Our gym teacher put together an amazing field day that had I don't know at least 12 different events, and the super fun thing about my role was that I got to go around and photograph all the different events that were going on. So I got to see everything and I will tell you one of my most favorite events that they had that was brand new for our field day was water dodgeball. It was these sponges, right, instead of dodgeballs tucked away in tubs of water, obviously. And the kids had to start, you know, on lines like they would for normal dodgeball. And then when you said go instead of racing for the middle line to grab dodgeballs, they raced for the middle line to grab sponges out of these tubs and it was hysterical. It was absolutely one of the best games of the day. The kids were having so much fun and of course they got absolutely soaked and the teachers a lot of the teachers were getting into it and joining the kids in which of course the kids found great, because who doesn't want to get their teacher soaking wet? And I was jumping into the middle of it so I could get some really good shots, which I actually got a few that were absolutely professional level, stunning, amazing, go me. Um, but it was just so much fun. Like that particular event was so much fun and I was our school librarian that was running that event, so she was having a hoot all day y'all.

Speaker 1:

And then, honestly, my next favorite event was tug of war. It was so cute, it was so, so cute. These tiny little things trying to hang on to this rope, trying to dig their feet in. I mean especially preschool. That was adorable. Um, I really enjoyed when third grade went up to get into tug-of-war because one, their teacher jumped in and was trying to help out you know different teams so they could each win. And then, two, we had had a student teacher that taught third grade in to help tug of war with that particular third grade class. The student teacher saw and thought that was totally unfair, and so he jumped in on the other side and he was helping that team and I'm telling y'all, man it was, it was serious. It was so hard to go against them because he has he's an athlete all out strength, but, man, I kept my faith dug in and I pulled for all my might Of course with all the kids behind me, and he ended up losing his footing just long enough that we were able to win. It was absolutely fantastic, one of the best moments of the day.

Speaker 1:

Another really great game that we've done several years and I've always loved this game is Dribble Dribble Drench. So Dribble Dribble Drench is like Duck Duck Goose, except for instead of tapping them on the heads, you have a sponge right and you pass a sponge over people's heads and then you wring the sponge out over the person that you want to have, chase you, and it is hysterical y'all, because people are getting wet and that ground is slippery and those kids want to try and be fast. It is hysterical. It is so much fun. Another new one that we have this year was an obstacle course. We hadn't had that last year. That was actually really pretty fun. They used pool noodles and set them up on cones to make like high jumping areas. And then they used cones to make zigzag run through areas and the kids had an absolute blast doing that one. They really enjoyed that one. And then, of course, the favorite, you have to have the parachute. The parachute, oh my goodness, the kindergarten. They were so adorable, they were just adorable. I got some really good shots of kindergarten doing the parachute.

Speaker 1:

And then this year our principal had something come up and he couldn't be there for field day and he's always the one that's on the mic directing kids where to go, you know, in between events, right? Well, this year it was our music teacher. Our music teacher is one of our favorite people and he did an absolutely fantastic job. He was our DJ for the day. He had really fun music playing from his phone onto the speakers for the day he had really fun music playing from his phone onto the speakers. And when the kids would be at the sit and relax and refresh station where they could eat popsicles and sit and, you know, kind of take a breather in between events or during events, because this was like one of the stations he would dance with the different kids. I got some amazing shots of him dancing with the different kids and and that was also just one of the highlights of the day was you're getting to dance with the music teacher, so I just really enjoyed that. He got to be the DJ this, like this year, and I am really hoping that they have him be the DJ next year as well. So it was just an absolutely fantastic event. We had one session in the morning for the younger grades and one session in the afternoon for the older grades, and everybody got to have just a really amazing time and it is absolutely one of my favorite parts of the school year.

Speaker 1:

For any fellow teachers out there, I would love to hear your school's version of Phil Day. I would love to hear your stories of different things that happened at your school. If you have any things that you want to share, if you have any ideas, if you want to just drop a line and say hi, I welcome all comments. I encourage you to email me at AvengersOfGender at gmailcom. I'm also at Twitter at GenderAdvent Adventure and also on Facebook facebookcom slash adventuresofginger. I absolutely love sharing my stories and discussing with other teachers just some of the craziness and fun that can happen when you're at school. That's all for this episode. I'll see you on the wild side.
